Welcome to the new world of digital dentistry!

Discurso inaugural:
Dr Clint Stevens, cirujano dentista
¡Bienvenidos al nuevo mundo de la odontología digital!

Just like parts of our personal lives, our profession has increasingly gone digital. This new era provides the opportunity to give our patients better, faster and more efficient treatments – all due to digital technologies. Many of the old paradigms in dentistry are changing. Every dental practice can improve its prospects by implementing intraoral scanning, CBCT imaging, dental milling and 3D printing. In this presentation, we will discuss the benefits and limitations of each of these technologies, as well as show how they can all work together seamlessly to provide patients with better care than ever before.

Dr Clint Stevens is a native of Dallas, Texas. He graduated from the University of Texas Health Sciences Center San Antonio and currently maintains a full-time private practice in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry, the International College of Oral Implantologists, and is a member of the Southwest Academy of Restorative Dentistry. Dr Stevens is engaged in ongoing laboratory and clinical research dealing with adhesive restorative materials, digital dentistry workflows, endodontics and dental implants. He also serves as a key opinion leader and consultant for product development.

Digital dentistry in the clinical present and future

‘Digital dentistry’ is one of the most talked about concepts in the dental industry today. However, many dentists are still not entirely clear on what the term actually encompasses and liken it to simply switching from traditional impressions to intraoral scanning. Then what is ‘digital dentistry’? In his keynote speech, Dr Kitahara will explain how far digital dentistry has advanced so far and consider where and how it can evolve in the future.

Dr Nobuya Kitahara received his dental degree and completed his residency in Prosthodontics at Nihon University in 1989. He then went into private practice, opening first Kitahara Dental Clinic, then Team Tokyo Nobu Restorative Dental Office. He received his PhD from Showa University in 2014, and is currently a Visiting Professor at both Showa University and Nihon University as well as an Adjunct Professor at Asia Dental Healthcare Centre in Singapore.

Dr Kitahara is a member of the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, Co-President of the Society of Japan Clinical Dentistry, and board-certified by the Japanese Society of Conservative Dentistry and Japan Academy of Esthetic Dentistry.

Keynote speech:
Dr Kirill Kostin
In-house digital dental lab: New possibilities for building communication between clinicians and DT

Time and cost savings and improved communication – these are just a few of the benefits of having an in-house digital dental lab. Dr Kostin’s expert lecture will highlight all the advantages of a digital lab and show how to implement intraoral scanning, CAD/CAM milling and 3D printing in your practice, covering all major esthetic treatment strategies for both implants and natural dentition.

Dr Kirill Kostin graduated from Saint Petersburg State Medical University in 2004. He co-founded the PerfectSmile dental clinic and dental study center in 2014, where he focuses on minimally invasive restorative procedures with direct and indirect restorations. In his work, Dr Kostin concentrates on the aesthetic and functional rehabilitation of natural dentition and implants, applying various digital instruments (incl. digital smile design, intraoral scanning, CAD/CAM milling, 3D printing and guided surgical procedures) as part of restorative procedures.

Dr Zach Evans
Achieving perfect implants? Digital strategies for implant planning and restoration

Dr Evans’s presentation will be overviewing strategies for digital implant planning, guided surgery, and restoration. He will be reviewing the incorporation of CAD/CAM, digital smile design, intraoral imaging, CBCT imaging, and 3D printing in the implant planning and surgical process. Dr Zach Evans completed his PhD in Biomedical Science as well as his dental training and residency in Periodontics at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in the United States. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and Assistant Professor at the MUSC Department of Stomatology Division of Periodontics. Dr Evans is also the director of the MSc programme in Dentistry at the university and actively engages in research on dental implants and CAD/CAM technology. He lectures internationally on how to incorporate digital systems into surgical and implant workflows in the dental practice and was one of the top speakers at Planmeca’s IDS stand in 2019.
