Studies are now shown as folders in the table view of the Image Browser in the 2D module.

For the sake of clarity, attachments are no longer shown in the Instant Preview window of the Patient management module.

The image list is now automatically updated if the image is captured in another workstation.

2D imaging

Romexis® 6.1 introduces a new concept of locked images and studies. This is a useful feature especially for large clinics and universities. When an image or a study is locked, the image opens in a read-only mode, and any modifications done to the image are not saved. Locked images cannot be inactivated either. Images and studies can be set to lock automatically after a certain number of hours following the capture or study creation. The locking can be set in the Romexis Configuration application and requires admin or user permission. The locked image is marked with a lock icon. With the admin permission, the images can be unlocked from the right-click menu. By default, the locking feature in disabled.

New filtering options have also been added for intraoral images. The bitewing, periapicals or other options can be selected under the image tooth chart.

Digital camera integration

Romexis® 6.1 features a new functionality for receiving digital camera images directly to Romexis. Romexis automatically fetches images from the specified directory and imports these to the currently open patient. An external 3rd party programme, qDslr (, can be used for receiving the images from the digital camera to the local computer directory, where Romexis then fetches them.

The creation of a virtual cephalometric image has been improved in Romexis 6.1. In the curve selection drop-down list, the old Default curve option has been replaced with the X-ray curve. We have also added sliders for adjusting the brightness and contrast and a possibility to sharpen the image.

Tip! When applying the new X-ray curve selection, the Ceph filter tool in the 2D module can be used to enhance the visibility of the soft tissue.

DICOM and Dental PACS


We have added a new feature, Romexis® Dental PACS Q/R SCP, as a licensed option (FE004853). It adds the DICOM Query/Retrieve server class provider (SCP) role to allow 3rd party modality workstation software to query and retrieve images from the Romexis® server. Each licence entitles one 3rd party modality workstation to access the service. E.g. if the customer has five workstations running 3rd party software that retrieve images from the Romexis server, the customer needs five Q/R SCP workstation licences (FE004853). This requires Romexis Dental PACS (FE004569), which is not automatically included.

DICOM TLS Encryption

Romexis 6.1 also introduces the possibility to use TLS encryption for incoming and outgoing DICOM communication. Encryption is implemented using certificates. A custom certificate can be specified for both SCU user roles (DICOM Full) and SCP provider services (Dental PACS). Please see the technical manual for configuration instructions.

Model Analyser

LM-Activator size measurement tool

LM-Activator is an orthodontic eruption guidance appliance designed and manufactured by LM-Dental and used mainly for treating growing patients during mixed dentition. The LM-Activator arch length measurement tool aids in the selection of the appropriate LM-Activator eruption guidance appliance model and size. The tool measures the distance across the incisors (from the mesial surface of the right canine to the mesial surface of the left canine) and indicates the estimated size of the appliance.

SIMtoCARE support

SIMtoCARE (S2C) is a Dutch manufacturer of haptic dental simulators. It uses tooth surface models as an input and allows the user to virtually operate on them using e.g. virtual drills and explorers. It is now possible to send scans directly from Romexis® Model Analyser to the SIMtoCARE dental simulator. The SIMtoCARE button can be activated in the Admin module.

Cephalometric analysis

In Romexis® 6.1, the soft tissue detection algorithm has been improved to produce better results automatically. In addition, a defect related to tracings to be expanded over the page borders when creating a report has been corrected.

The new software version includes Romexis® Clinic Management support for the Planmeca ProX™ intraoral X-ray unit.
