Dr Thomas Rosner's initial Planmeca purchase of the Planmeca Emerald™ intraoral scanner in 2018 has been followed by a Planmeca imaging and dental unit, which have impressed Dr Rosner and his team with their effortless usability, high quality and beautiful design. Thanks to Planmeca’s unique all-in-one concept, Dr Rosner is now able to fully concentrate on what he is best at – dentistry.

Dr Thomas Rosner offers general and orthodontic dentistry with an emphasis on aligner treatments in his dental clinic in Tomils, a small village in Graubünden, Switzerland. He and his team also regularly assist the biological medical clinic Swiss Mountain Clinic in demanding patient cases, where the medical clinic needs deeper diagnostic information of the patient’s oral health. In the last few years, Dr Rosner has turned to Planmeca for state-of-the-art equipment.

“As our old X-ray machine was coming to the end of its life cycle, I started browsing for CBCT unit options,” Dr Rosner explains how he came to equip his clinic with Planmeca’s solutions. “ Harry Schütz, the product manager for Planmeca devices at Kaladent, showed me the Planmeca Romexis® software, which blew me away. This is the only software platform out there where you can save and browse all your images in one easy-to-use software."

Planmeca Promax® 3D Classic with Planmeca ProCeph™ cephalostat.

“As I was doing my mandatory Swiss CBCT certification, I also talked to my colleagues and got the chance to compare the images taken with different 3D devices. I was most impressed with the incredible image quality of Planmeca ProMax® 3D units. The Planmeca Ultra Low Dose™ feature also appealed to me,” Dr Rosner summarises.

At the end of March 2019, Dr Rosner purchased Planmeca Promax® 3D Classic with the Planmeca ProCeph™ cephalostat option. Dr Rosner and his team had already gathered positive experiences with Planmeca devices having introduced the Planmeca Emerald™ intraoral scanner in January 2018. According to Dr Rosner, the dental assistants of the clinic prefer Planmeca’s scanner over other devices due to the natural colours and surface of the scans, which make the assistants feel more comfortable with the scan results.

Convenience for both the dental team and patients

Since March 2019, Dr Rosner and his team have been using the imaging unit regularly with the Planmeca Ultra Low Dose feature especially on cases where they are inspecting the retention of the teeth, and always with children. In the future, Dr Rosner plans to use the feature also in orthodontic cases in combination with Planmeca Emerald™ S, Planmeca Romexis® 3D Ortho Studio and Planmeca Creo® C5. These systems allow him to plan and manufacture his own in-house aligners.

Apart from the low patient doses, Dr Rosner believes his patients also enjoy the imaging experience with the current unit more as a result of the more comfortable patient positioning. The convenient face-to-face positioning that allows for subtle adjustments also pleases the dentists at Dr Rosner’s clinic.

The clinic introduced  Planmeca Compact™ i5 at the end of October 2019 to the clinic’s repertoire. One of the reasons Dr Rosner chose Planmeca Compact i5 was the beautiful design of the unit. He considers most dental units big and heavy whereas Planmeca Compact i5 looks very modern and slim even though it is robust and stable.

Planmeca Compact i5 is the latest addition to the clinic's repertoire.

“I was also impressed with the unit’s balanced instrument arms and their smooth movements, which are like from another universe compared to others I have worked with. When you have the instrument in hand, it really weighs nothing and causes no strain to your arm even if you are drilling,” Dr Rosner says.

Dr Rosner also appreciates the possibility to position the instrument console over the patient, so the dental hygienists at his clinic can easily work with the unit right-handed and left-handed as they can reach the instruments effortlessly from both sides.

All-in-one concept lets you concentrate on dental treatments

Dr Rosner considers the all-in-one concept one of the main advantages of Planmeca solutions. “With Planmeca, you get the complete package without having to look around for different suitable solutions. It is easy to handle all the devices as they work seamlessly together.”

Dr Rosner is very happy he chose Planmeca and appreciates how the company is handling new ideas. He feels the company is really interested in offering new solutions for the best possible care instead of just selling products. He has also been very pleased with the local Planmeca distributor in Switzerland.

“If you have a problem, the local Planmeca specialist solves the issue for you. With the competent Planmeca partner and the complete solution, you do not have to deal with the problem alone by yourself."

“With Planmeca, I can fully concentrate on my job as a dentist.”
