2D module

Document attachments

File document attachments such as PDF and MS Word files can now be saved to Planmeca Romexis®. They are visible under the new Attachments tab located in 2D Imaging module.

  • The attachments can be opened from the attachment tab as long as a suitable program is installed on the computer.
  • The files can also be exported to disk.
  • Reports saved in the Planmeca Romexis® Cephalometric Analysis module are now automatically added to attachments.

Support for using multiple TWAIN sources

Several TWAIN sources such as intraoral cameras or flatbed scanners can be configured to work at the same time. To change between sources, the user previously had to access the TWAIN Configuration.

New sources can be added in TWAIN Setup:

  • All available sources are shown in drop-down menu
  • A separate button with different graphic options can be assigned to each source.
  • Button name and tooltip can be freely defined

New image processing tool – Optimize for diagnosis

The new Optimize for diagnosis function optimizes the selected region of interest for diagnostic tasks. The button is located in the image processing toolbar, and after activating it the user needs to click on the brightest non-filling area in the region of interest that is to be diagnosed for the tool to take effect.

Optimize for diagnosis is a familiar feature to Dimaxis users.

Setting default folder for Export all option

The default folder for exporting all the 2D images of one patient can now be set in Admin Module under Local settings. The Export all option can be selected in Image Browser by right-clicking an image under Table category. When this option is selected, the default folder will be used as an export path in the opening Export dialog window.

3D module

3D Diagnostix order form

With the new release, Planmeca ProMax® 3D users can now place an order for 3D Diagnostix radiology reports and computer-guided surgery solutions directly from the Planmeca Romexis® software.

Using the new 3D Diagnostix order form, Planmeca ProMax 3D users can send their CBCT data, implant plan and impression scanned with Planmeca ProMax 3D to 3D Diagnostix for a surgical guide order. In addition, Planmeca ProMax 3D images can be sent for radiological interpretation. Images sent from Planmeca Romexis are read by a 3D Diagnostix board-certified radiologist for a variety of diagnostic objectives such as pathology findings, implant planning, existing implant evaluation, sinus evaluation and TMJ evaluation.

New tools for handling STL files such as impression scans

  • Crop/Trim for STL
The Crop/Trim tools can now also be used with STL files.
  • Fit Before-After for STL
The fitting of before-and-after images can now also be done for STL files. The feature can be used for example to map the scanned lower and upper dental arches using a bite index or to fit two impression scans from different time points for comparison.
  • Deviation map for STL
The deviation map can be shown for two surface models. The feature can be used for example to compare two scans from different time points.

New Object Browser

The new Object Browser is an intuitive tool for adjusting the settings of objects superimposed to the CBCT volume. The Object Browser currently lists ProFace and Soft Tissue (previous Threshold overlay) items.

All ProFace and Soft Tissue objects of the patient are shown as a list below the new 3D Overlay drop down menu. Each item has separate tools for adjusting settings such as visibility in different views, transparency and color. The image browser can also be used to add or edit the object comment.

New Planmeca ProFace® tools

  • Multiple ProFace lines visible
Multiple ProFace images can now be seen in slice views and in 3D rendered view. The visibility of images can be adjusted using the Object Browser described above. This enables making measurements between ProFace images also in other modules.
  • ProFace Snapshot set
Save 2D view and Print Editor tools can automatically create a set of ProFace images from +/- 45 and 90 degree angles. The preferred snapshots can also be selected and created as individual images.

A set of images from different angles is typically taken during orthodontic treatment evaluation and planning. The profile snapshot from a 90 degree angle can also be used in the Planmeca Romexis® Cephalometric analysis module for analysis or superimposition.

  • Show Grid button for ProFace

A symmetric grid can be visualised on top of a ProFace image. When a parallel projection is selected, also measurement values are shown in the grid. This new tool is useful when evaluating the proportions or symmetry of the face, etc.

Saving 3D Reslicer Tool stacks

The stacks created with 3D Reslicer Tool can now also be saved to 2D Imaging module. The images will be visible as 2D stacks similar to SmartPan in the Imaging module.

Camlog’s Camlog and Conelog Abutment lines to Implant Library

Abutments now have a separate tab in Implant Library and Camlog’s Camlog and Conelog abutments have been added to the library. The following implant and abutment combinations can be used:

  • Conelog SCREW LINE implants can be used with Camlog/Conelog-abutments
  • Camlog/[Camlog] SCREW-LINE and Camlog/[Camlog] ROOT-LINE implants can be used with Camlog/Camlog abutments

To use an abutment, first an implant must be added to plan. An abutment can then be attached to the selected implant using the Implant Library tool. Implant and abutment are moved and rotated as one object. Settings for both implant and abutment are visible and adjustable separately in the properties window.

Size adjustment for generic crowns

The size of the generic crowns can now be changed. The width and height can be adjusted by SHIFT+ left mouse drag in the 2D slice views.

New implants to Implant Library

New implant manufacturers and implant lines have been added to Implant Library:

  • Clinical House Europe
  • Neoss
  • NucleOSS
  • GC: SETiO Plus Straight&Taper and GENESiO Plus Straight&Taper implant lines
  • TBR Group: M, Z1-M and Slim 2,5 implant lines

In addition, certain outdated Bego models have been removed from the library.

New 3D Export options

  • Burn only image to CD/DVD with no viewer or launcher included
  • Option to Skip launcher when viewer is included

STL Quick Launch

3D Quick Launch now supports export of surface model files (STL) to external software suites. The settings for Quick Launch buttons can be configured in Admin Module.

Combined export of CBCT, ProFace and STL data

The combination of a CBCT image, ProFace image and STL file can now be exported with matching coordinates for importing to compatible third party software such as Dolphin Imaging.

Measurement color settings

The color for measurements and 3D annotations can be set based on their orientation or type. The user can for example define the color for all rectangles or separate colors for horizontal and vertical length measurements. This is especially useful when making e.g. cross measures on cross-sectional slices.

Planmeca Romexis® Viewer

Improvement to opening 3D volumes

  • A CBCT image now opens directly in Explorer Module if it is the only volume on the media and if “Skip Launcher” option was selected when creating the media. Previously the volume had to be selected in the Volumes list first.
  • Combination of CBCT, ProFace, and STL file are visible in the launcher as a combined image. All three files can be opened with matching coordinates.
  • STL files can be seen in the launcher and opened separately
