Planmeca PlanCAD Easy 6.3

Capturing digital impressions with Planmeca Emerald™ scanners becomes even easier with our new Planmeca PlanCAD® Easy 6.3 software release! The new software improves the scanning experience by introducing for example a new global alignment feature, which corrects geometrical faults in scanning both during the scan and after scanning. With the global alignment feature, users can choose their scan pattern more flexibly since the software aligns the scanned frames automatically, removing stitching errors and improving the overall accuracy.

New global alignment feature

The software release 6.3. introduces a new global alignment feature, which reprocesses the scans and corrects misalignments, if possible, improving the overall trueness and precision of the model. The user only needs to rescan a misaligned area from multiple angles and the system will automatically replace and realign the data.

The global alignment process occurs both during the scanning as the interim model is being built and again when the model is being generated. When the scanning stops, a global alignment processing message is displayed on the screen, but the user can interrupt the process by restarting the scanner.

In the following examples, the teeth were scanned using a scan pattern that resulted in stitching errors and then rescanned with the Active Delete feature ON. With the new software release, global alignment was able to correct the most misalignments automatically.

Improved Active Delete automatically ON

The Active Delete function has been improved in the new software release. The function is now turned ON by default and can be turned OFF in settings, if needed. Together with the new global alignment feature of the software, the Active Delete function enables the best possible scanning outcome.

Model generation recommended before erasing

With the improved software, it is recommended to generate the model before any erasing is done. The model is now automatically cleaned up during the model generation and might not need any erasing at all after the generation, making the workflow even more efficient.

New live view options

The live view window can be set to Small or Large in the scanner settings.

Undercuts now highlighted

Click on Show Undercuts to view any undercut areas on the model. The feature is based on orientation and only a visual reference, which does not affect milling.

Correct orientation shows undercut areas which the dentist might want to be aware of.

Incorrect orientation can result in a misleading colouring of the model – drastic example below.

Buccal alignment improved

The buccal alignment has been improved to work more efficiently. The bite is now found more quickly on both sides during a full arch scan.

Changes in scan settings

- “Apply to ICE” has been changed to “Apply to Color Model”.
- DASH section has been removed as Planmeca PlanScan® is no longer supported in this software version.
- “Show Edges” has been changed to “Show Low Density”

Changes in scan button menu

The scan button menu functions the same way as before, but all description texts have now been removed.

To open the scan button menu, hold down both scanner buttons simultaneously. After the menu has appeared, point the scanner towards the screen and rotate the scanner clockwise or counter-clockwise to highlight the desired action and release the buttons to select one of the following actions:

- Delete model
- Generate model
- Cancel
- Colour/Stone model view
- Data density view

New system warnings

Hardware compatibility warning
Not all hardware is compatible with the new scanning software version. If the user attempts to use the Planmeca PlanScan® scanner or an incompatible laptop with the software, an error message is shown. Planmeca Emerald® and Planmeca Emerald® S scanners are both compatible with the 6.3 version.

Windows update warning
A dialog box will appear if a Windows update is being installed in the background. The scanning is not recommended during Windows updates.

Low disk space warning
A dialog box will appear if available disk space is below the recommended amount. If this happens, the user should back up their files and delete unnecessary files to release more disk space.

More flexibility with scan patterns

With the new 6.3 version, the user can scan with a variety of different scan patterns to achieve repeatable trueness and precision. The system is now able to handle inconsistent scanning patterns, including speed and height-off model variations, better than the previous versions.

Improved setup options for multiple restorations

When the user adds an additional restoration to a case, the material, translucency and shade values of the previously designed tooth will be used as the default values. The user can change the values on the setup tab, if desired.

Software update for Planmeca PlanMill® 30 S:
Planmeca FIT® chairside implant workflow now also available for Planmeca PlanMill® 30 S

The latest software update of Planmeca PlanMill® 30 S allows you to design and mill implant restorations using Ivoclar Viteo® Base Ti abutment solution with Elos Accurate®Scan Body. This new feature introduces a smooth and efficient workflow from the scanning of a scan body to the manufacturing of a final hybrid abutment crown in one visit.

Elos Accurate® Scan Body

In Planmeca FIT® chairside implant workflow, an Elos Accurate® Scan Body is placed directly on the implant. The scan body identifies the exact position, angle and rotation of the implant.
- PEEK scan top for easy and reliable scanning
- Titanium screw retained inside for secure handling
- Suitable for both desktop and intraoral scanning
- One universal screwdriver
- Compatible with major implant systems
- Autoclavable

Viteo® Base Ti

Viteo® Base Ti is a titanium bonding base for single tooth restorations. The special ”soft edge” design of the bonding surface is ideally suited for the Ivoclar Vivadent restoration materials and therefore supports a long-term clinical use.

Viteo® Base Ti is compatible with the most common implant systems. It is available in two sizes: small diameter (SD) and medium diameter (MD).

Instructions for use

In Planmeca PlanCAD® Easy

1. Choose Abutment at Setup tab.

Instructions for use

2. Scan the arch paying attention to the emergence profile and contacts. Move to Scan body tab. Software suggests you to copy the previously scanned data. Erase the emergence profile area and scan the placed scan body carefully.

Scan the opposing arch and bite as usual.

Instructions for use

3. In Margin tab, draw the emergence profile line.

Instructions for use

4. Design the restoration as usual, continue to the Abutment design.

Instructions for use

5. In Abutments view, choose the correct implant and material. Design the hybrid abutment crown. When you are ready, exit from the upper left corner.

Instructios for use

6. Continue to Milling tab, simulate the work before sending it to the mill.
