Planmeca continues to be strongly committed to research and technology: innovative R&D and industrial design have been Planmeca’s leading values for decades. Planmeca employs over 80 people within the R&D function. Approximately 10% of the annual turnover is dedicated to R&D.

Planmeca works closely with the leading universities as well as number of end-users in order to stay in the forefront of the development. Dedicated scientific knowledge is a vital and integrated part of Planmeca’s product development and design.

Digital perfection – Enjoy the progress

At the era of digital imaging, Planmeca’s imaging software and digital solutions have been the ones to lead the way. Superior image quality and ease-of-use have been the most important guidelines of our R&D. Planmeca’s line of Cone Beam Volumetric Tomography (CBVT) devices for three-dimensional (3D) dental imaging in the dental practise can be completed with a 3D face photo capability in order to widen the clinical applicability.

 

On the development, Planmeca concentrates on full-integration of the dental equipment – dental unit, digital imaging devices and software are all compatible with each other enabling a functional clinic where the equipment share an open interface with each other.

 

The latest groundbreaking innovation is the unique combination of 3D intraoral scan, a CBVT 3D data and a 3D photo. The resulting data combined with open CAD/CAM technology, gives an optimal basis for accurate treatment. The world’s first dental unit integrated intraoral scanner is launched in March 2011.

 

One general trademark in all our products is the well considered and distinguished design, which contributes both to ergonomics and safety. The key factors guiding the industrial design at Planmeca are the patient and user safety, as well as hygiene.

 

A well-designed, stylish device arouses confidence in the patient. An empathic form language, however, is rare in hospital technology products. Nonetheless, Planmeca has remarkably achieved this goal. This has been recognised, as several Planmeca products have been rewarded in design contests.

 

R&D focuses also on hygiene features. In Planmeca products it is demonstrated through material selection, design and technical details. Hygiene is crucial for the safety of both the patient and the dental team. The features in Planmeca products are designed to fulfil also the future requirements for infection control and instrument water quality.
