The statutory CPD that came into force on 1 January 2002 requires that all dentists undertake 250 hours of CPD over a period of 5 years to stay on the GDC. Dentists first registered between 1 January 1990 and 31 December 2001, and all those working under temporary registration commenced the Scheme on 1 January 2002. From December 2002 they will have to report to the Council how many hours of verifiable and general CPD they have completed. Dentists registered in the 1980s will join on 1 January 2003 and dentists first registered on or before 31 December 1979 will join on 1 January 2004.
